To tempt you, we have a superb collection of antique boxes, including tea caddies, jewellery boxes, dressing cases, knife boxes, writing slopes, post boxes, sewing boxes, stamp boxes and decanter boxes.

One of our specialities is antique miniature furniture, and we have over 100 pieces of miniature furniture in stock including chest of drawers, bureau, bureau bookcases, tables, chairs, clocks and an extremely rare bureau bookcase that does an amazing card trick.

We always have an amazing selection of antique globes in stock, with examples by Cary, Newton, Edkins, Loring, Bardin and Cruchley, which is possibly one of the largest choices of globes currently available in the world.

Our first love when collecting was Victorian Staffordshire figures and we still collect this subject as well as dealing with them in the showroom, with over 150 examples of portrait and animal figures available.

From this we have gone on to enjoy both English and continental porcelain and we have many examples of Meissen, Chelsea, Derby, Vauxhall, Bow, Worcester, Minton and Coalport available in the showroom.

Following a very successful exhibition of Chinese artefacts and pottery and porcelain, we have maintained a large selection of both Chinese and Japanese pottery and porcelain in stock with many items from the Ming and Tang period, together with a small selection of Chinese snuff bottles.

Our latest exhibition of Japanese Satsuma has just finished and we will now be keeping a selection of this in the showroom, together with a selection of Japanese ivories, Japanese bronzes and other high quality Japanese items.

Our collection of antique glassware is growing all the time and we always have a choice of 18th and 19th century glass available, including cut and engraved drinking glasses, air twist stem examples, together with decanters, claret jugs, fruit bowls etc.

We have recently introduced a small selection of antique guns, including an Irish blunderbuss, pair of cased pistols, pepperbox pistol, fowling rifle, highway mans pistol and other examples, which all came from a small private collection.

Janice was responsible for my interest in singing birds, and we always have a selection of antique singing birds in cages, including at the moment a three-bird penny in the slot example. We also have a choice of antique singing bird boxes available and this is complimented by a selection of mechanical music boxes, both large and small.

There is a small selection of antique silver currently available, including claret jugs, candlesticks, champagne and wine coolers, candelabra, cruet sets, salts, peppers and mustard pots, together with other items.

We have the largest selection of fine art available in Petworth, with over 100 high quality paintings in stock. As well as 18th, 19th and 20th century oils and watercolours, we have a selection of drawings, etchings, including some Wyllies, prints always available.

Our selection of antique bronzes is also one of the best in Petworth, with a good selection of animalier and romantic bronzes and sculpture always available. We always have a selection of bronzes by Mene, Barye, Willis Good and many of the top sculptors of this period. We have also extended our range to include Art Deco bronzes and sculpture, including work by Galle, Chiparus, Lalique and Lorenzl, to name but a few.

There is always a large selection of antique mirrors in the showroom with both gilt and wooden frames available for over mantles, together with pier mirrors, box base mirrors, cheval mirrors. These are complimented by a selection of lamps, candelabra, rocking horses, stools and many wondrous items to many to list, although our selection of ships models, in bone and wood, and cannon, are worth a visit to the showroom on their own. There is also a fine choice of antique clocks to choose from with a selection of Grandfather, mantle and bijouterie clocks on show.

This brings us to our main stock, which is a selection of some of the finest antique furniture currently available on the market, in walnut, mahogany, rosewood and satinwood, and by some of the finest makers and designers, such as Chippendale, Sheraton, Adam, Gillows, Edwards & Roberts and many more. We pride ourselves on trying to locate the choicest pieces available and hope you will agree when you either visit our showrooms or take time to peruse our web site.

There are many different items in the showroom, so please excuse us if the list goes on, but we do want you to have as full a choice of pieces as is possible, starting with one of the most sort after pieces, the bookcase. It is interesting that even in these times of computers, people still want to collect books and are always looking for somewhere to store them. We have small examples such as the waterfall bookcase, the elegant open bookcases, going up to the bureau and secretaire bookcase, and largest of them all, the breakfront bookcase, one of the main statement pieces for a library or drawing room, don’t forget the library steps if getting a tall example. The Canterbury is also highly popular for the storage of books, but mainly newspapers and magazines, and again is ideal for the library or drawing room.

Another popular choice of furniture is the side cabinet as it is so versatile, fitting into the main rooms of the home, but also slim enough to go into hallways, landings, etc. Usually with shelves behind cupboard doors, these provide ample storage space, which frankly we all seem to need more of.

Something we all need in our homes are chairs, and we have a large selection for you to choose from, with a range of dining chairs, the ever popular wing armchair, leather library chairs, desk chairs for those of you that now work from home, bergere and side chairs, and nearly every other style of chair you could want.

The dining room is one of the main rooms in the house that lends itself to antiques. Nothing can be better than entertaining your friends and family around an antique dining or breakfast table laid out with silver and glass and lit by candlelight. Other items for the dining room are the chairs, to go with the table, a sideboard or side cabinet, if large enough a serving table or if not a dumb waiter, and not forgetting the cellaret or wine cooler. Corner cupboards also work well in the dining room, helping to fill that awkward corner and providing extra storage or display space, and you can put a butlers tray on stand underneath for extra serving space or for decanters, drinks and glasses.

Tables are another piece of furniture that everyone needs, from sofa tables, lamp and wine tables, nests of tables, work tables, card and tea tables, and coffee tables for the drawing room, together with drum tables and centre tables for both the drawing room or the entrance hallway. Coffee tables are always a difficult problem to solve, we can use butler’s trays on a modern stand, or a large stool with a flat top, also small trunks can often be used for this purpose as well. For the study or library, there is a good selection of library, reading or writing tables available, together with a selection of architects or artist’s tables. Another problem we encounter is bedside tables or commodes, clients are looking for pairs, which are hard to find. We recommend using two tray top commodes or two Pembroke work tables and once put either side of the bed with a pair of lamps on them, they look great.

I always enjoy doing libraries and studies, it must be a man thing, nothing beats a pedestal desk, leather desk chair, a comfortable sofa or even leather chesterfield, together with a pair of leather wing armchairs. If there is space, a good collectors cabinet works well in this situation, together with a telescope and other boys toys. These together with a pair of globes, a folio stand, reading table, decanters, glasses and wine table and that lovely bottle of red wine, fantastic!!

There are other desks that go into other rooms, such as kneehole desks, secretaire desks and davenports, all of which are elegant enough for the drawing room or bedroom.

Talking of bedrooms, we must not forget about the chest of drawers, a most versatile piece of furniture, We have examples of straight and bow fronted chests, together with the elegant serpentine chests, the chest on chest or tallboy as it is sometimes referred to, chests on stands, and the elusive bachelors chest. The good thing with an elegant example is that it can be used in every other room in the house, including drawing rooms, dining rooms, hallways, landings and even bathrooms.
Other pieces for the bedroom are the linen press, wardrobe, dressing table, dressing stool, cheval mirror, box base mirror and a comfortable chair.
