A superior quality highly figured and line inlaid satinwood display cabinet with a moulded cornice and a crossbanded frieze, which features a central rectangular panel of decorative feathery veneers. The two glazed doors have very attractive arched glazing bars and each has a lower panel with a distinctive oval motif in West Indian show-wood. The cabinet has glazed sides and stands on bracket feet.

The latter part of the 19th century and early 20th century saw renewed interest in elegant and decorative neo-classical designs of a hundred years earlier and furniture of this period is generally referred to as “Sheraton Revival”. Thomas Sheraton’s drawing book was re-published in 1895 and earlier designs were often adjusted to suit prevalent taste. Numerous eminent firms of cabinet-makers were engaged in the manufacture of this furniture and modern advances enabled, in the best pieces, unsurpassed technical excellence. Satinwood was then and remains the most sought after and this charming cabinet is exemplary.
