Fine quality ivory strung tortoiseshell mantel clock
Circa 1905 H: 8¼ in / 21 cm W: 5¼ in / 13½ cm D: 3¼ in / 8½ cm Stock Number: 45081/0808 £6,350
A very fine quality English ivory strung blond tortoiseshell dome topped mantel clock of the Edwardian period. Set upon ivory bun feet the clock has a stepped base and is of domed form. The tortoiseshell veneers, which have been applied to all visible sides of the clock including the back are of a beautifully figured blond colour. The clear and perfect white enamel dial is set under convex glass within a brass bezel. The dial has both Roman and Arabic numerals and blued steel hands. The eight day movement is behind a glazed and hinged bezel and is wound and the hands set from behind. This gives a dial uninterrupted by winding holes. The movement is French and the timekeeping is controlled by the original cylinder escapement.
