Robert Pite followed in the tradition of the highly successful Pite family of Scottish architects. His grandfather Arthur Beresford Pite was professor of architecture at the Royal College of Art 1900-23. Robert Pite joined his fathers practice in the Strand, London as a chartered architect in 1919. Notable building designs include the Institute for Deep Sea Fishermen, Aberdeen 1925*. Bishop Adcocks chantry at Ely Cathedral 1921, and the Medical School, Aberdeen University 1936. *Literature: Royal Academy notes 1925 Robert Pite was also a very talented amateur artist, recording the many historical buildings, and areas of beauty he visited. Pite travelled to Switzerland each July from 1921 to 1925, and recorded these visits in detailed watercolour and pencil sketches. Zermatt and the surrounding valleys was a favourite subject. Lake Lugano, Kippel and Grisons were also visited.
