A superb miniature long case clock and letter box by W.Thornhill & Co, the mahogany and boxwood inlaid case with French carriage clock movement fitted with traditional brass dial with gilded centre, silvered chapter ring, gilded spandrels and an engraved circular plaque to the break arch engraved W.Thornhill & Co, 144, New Bond Street, London W. The clock striking on the hour and the half, between the dial and the door of the main case is a small opening with a wooden flap, inlaid with the word Letters which would indicate this was made for a hotel or grand house as a letter box, you open the door to retrieve the letters. The main door of the clock case is beautifully inlaid with a classical urn and flowers, and the base with an inlaid fan. An exceptional piece.
