  George II mirror.

Circa 1730
H: 71½ in / 181½ cm
W: 34¼ in / 87 cm
Stock Number: 214969/bro
£25,500

An important George II mirror with a swan neck pediment, tasselled drapery and a later ho-ho bird. Both the 18th Century bevelled Vauxhall plate and ho-ho bird are possibly from a refashioning of the mirror in the 1760's, the bird being in the Chinese Chippendale taste. The frame is covered in fine gesso carving with a ring punched ground typical of the first quarter of the 18th century. The motifs on the border around the glass and on the four roundels are similar to those found in lacquer and japanned work (chinoiserie) fashionable in England from the 1670's.
