The Richard Gardner Antiques website is probably the largest single antiques dealer website on the internet. It has over 1000 items representing 90% of the stock, and is best viewed at a screen size of 800 x 600 pixels, or greater.
We have tried to make navigation of the website as easy as possible. Wherever you are in the website, there is always a navigation bar on the left hand side of the screen. If you click on the Home button you will always be taken to the top of the website (known as the home page). When you are viewing a particular item, you have the choice to either go home or go back to the previous page. If you are more than one level deep (i.e. Furniture – Tables) the menu system will allow you to either go home, or go back to the previous section, or go further down the website.
All of the items on the website have a larger representation available and all you have to do to access this is to click on the thumbnail (small picture representing the item).
Now that the site is complete it continues to evolve. New items are regularly being added and sold items removed. Updates to the content are ongoing on a weekly basis and the site is constantly maintained.
The website was built for Richard Gardner by dex - a Brighton based website development and computer training company whose own site is at www.dex.co.uk.
The development team is as follows: Tim Nettell - programmer Chris Gillison - designer Paul Godden - project manager
and not forgetting Richard himself who has overseen the entire project and worked hard to make the website as impressive as possible. If you are technically minded the original version of the site was built using Microsoft Frontpage 98 on a PC. The current version was coded in Dreamweaver and has an access database as its engine. Richard updates the site himself using a custom built content management system.
