Haig, Thomas (c.1727-1803) Cabinet-maker, upholsterer and business partner of Thomas Chippendale. When Chippendale died in 1779 he continued in partnership with Thomas Chippendale, the son, until 1796.
half-tester Bed with a canopy or tester, a supported headboard or posts that covers a quarter or a third of the bed area. They were used in the late medieval times and revived in the 17th - 19th Centuries.
hall chair These are hard seated single chairs designed for entrance halls and date from the early 18th Century.
Hallett, William (c.1709-1781) Early Georgian cabinet maker. A business partner in the cabinet making firm Vile & Cobb in 1752.
hallmarks The official marks of an assay office or guild stamped on articles with a precious metal content. Also applies to the complete set of marks found on Silver, Gold and Platinum, they include the date mark and the makers mark in Britain the term 'hallmark' means the mark of the Goldsmith's Hall. Different systems are in use throughout Europe. The original Assaying office was established in London on 1300.
