ice glass Art glass that has a frosted outer surface that can resemble cracked ice. Made by rolling partly blown glass object over powdered glass and reheating it and blowing it into shape. Or plunging white-hot glass into cold water so that it becomes veined with little cracks. Made in 16th Century in Venice and British glass maker Apsley Pellatt C.1840 revived it.
Imari Decorated Japanese porcelain made at Arita from the late 17th Century and it was shipped from the port of Imari. Distinctively dominated by blue, iron-red enamel and gilding, with sometimes black, green, aubergine and yellow enamels. Were copied throughout Europe in 18th Century and the designs could be known as Japan patterns. 19th Century Imari inspired patterns were imitated at Derby and spode.

impasto Coloured or white liquid applied thickly to ceramics and worked in so that it becomes raised. Can also mean the thickness of paint on an oil painting.
Ince & Mayhew (fl.1759-1802) William Iince and John Mayhew were English cabinet makers who worked together from 1759 onwards. Rococo style early ornate work moved onto Neoclassical restrained lines. They published The Universal System of Household Furniture, it contained more than 300 designs similar to Thomas Chippendale. They also based designs on Robert Adam.
