lacca contrafatta Italian term for cheap, imitation lacquer, used in Italian furniture since 18th Century. Prints or paper cut outs are used by being stuck to the surface and then covered in layers of varnish.
lace A open work fabric of cotton or silk, often delicate mainly used as an accessory to clothing or as a thread. Was developed from an embroidery technique known as 'drawn thread' work.
lacework An openwork very fine technique for decorating porcelain developed in the 18th Century likely at Meissen.
