Exhibition Of Antique Miniature Furniture
No one can give you the definitive reason as to why miniature furniture was made, was it an apprentice piece, something used by travelling salesmen, an example of the cabinetmakers skill, a toy for adults, or something for children and their dolls.
All we can say is that these small pieces have a charm all of there own and have been collected for many years by both antique dealers and members of the public alike.
This exhibition will bring together some of the finest examples of miniature furniture currently available in the country and with over 100 items on show, will be one of the largest exhibitions of miniature furniture held in this country.
The range of miniature items on show reflects the selection of full size pieces available from cabinetmakers for your home in the 18th and 19th centuries. This includes, chairs, chest of drawers, bureaux, sideboards, beds, clocks, desks, bookcases, wardrobes, and much, much more.
Among some of the rarer items will be an 18th century Chippendale style chair, a William IV four-poster bed, a Georgian oak longcase clock, and a very rare mid 18th century serpentine fronted chest of drawers.
Of special note will be a three-piece oak bedroom suite consisting of a chest of drawers, wardrobe and dressing table, made from the wreck of Nelsons flagship the Foudroyant, which was wrecked on the beach at Blackpool in 1897, and from which a selection of furniture was made from the salvaged wood.
A large full colour catalogue will be available at a cost of £20 plus postage, contact Richard Gardner Antiques on 01798 343411 or through the web site for a copy.
