Henry and Charles Shayer were brothers and the sons of William Shayer. Both boys worked in their fathers studio in Southampton and collaborated on many works. Henry painted most of the landscape while Charles put in the figures and animals, with William senior often adding the finishing touches.
After the death of their father they moved to a studio in Wandsworth.
Charles is considered to be the best painter of horses in the Shayer family.
