19TH CENTURY FRENCH BOULLE TEA CADDY
Stock Number: RW5111/1215
A large and ornate mid-19th century French rectangular boulle work tea caddy with engraved brass and red tortoiseshell, having gilt metal key escutcheon and cartouche to the top, with gilt metal mounts to the edges and canted corners, together with gilt metal feet, the top opens to reveal an ebonised wood interior containing two tea caddies with removable ebonised lids with gilt metal banding, the interiors with floating lids, between these is a glass sugar bowl (replaced). There have been losses and repairs to the tortoiseshell, but this does not take away the impressive beauty and scale of this piece.
