A fine and unusual antique French desk timepiece of Retour d’Egypt or Egyptian Revival style in gilt and silvered bronze on a griotte marble base. The timepiece with silvered dial and blued steel hands of Breguet form is set in a drum case set upon a column of silvered and gilt bronze with hieroglyphics. The top of the drum is mounted with a gilt and bronze figure of a Pharaoh and around the drum itself are further hieroglyphics. To each side of the clock is a gilt and silvered bronze winged sphinx facing outwards, very well cast and finished. The movement is of 8 day duration with a platform escapement.
