MAGNIFICENT ANTIQUE FRENCH GILT ORMOLU BRONZE AND SILVERED CATHEDRAL MANTLE CLOCK
Stock Number: RW4641/1115
A magnificent early 19th century French gilt ormolu bronze and silvered cathedral mantle clock by Le Roy of Paris, with exquisite detail throughout the complete structure, it has a silk suspension as you would expect of a clock from this early French Empire period and an 8 day striking movement, striking on the hour and the half, also with the rare feature of the bell in the top bell tower appearing to strike as the hammer is attached to the movement by a line on the hammer of the movement, the pierced front section allows you to view the matching bronze ormolu pendulum working through the piercings, the movement is signed Le Roy hor” du Roy á Paris (Le Roy horloger to the King) together with the Pons Medaille d’Argent 1823. The Gothic inspired silvered case is lavishly decorated with ormolu mounts to all sides and with very well executed lancet windows, with four ormolu topped tapered spires with figural mounts to the base of the spires, the ormolu bell tower also surrounded by four further tapered spires, all on a four tiered stepped base with each step decorated with an individually designed ormolu mount, onto bracket feet.
