A finely carved early Victorian rosewood canterbury of commemorative interest, with butterfly divisions fronted by crisply carved Prince of Wales ostrich plumes above a coronet and ribbon tied bow, the base with drawer and turned legs to castors stamped Collinson patent.
We can assume that this canterbury commemorates the birth in 1841 of Bertie, later King Edward VII, to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, being the first legitimate heir born to a reigning monarch since George Augustus Frederick, later Prince Regent and George IV born 1762.
