This is a fine example of an antique carved ivory club size Burmese chess set. Probably carved in Canton for the export market, smaller and poorly completed sets were common but these larger sets are completed by master craftsmen and at 4.5 inches is a true “club” set. All aspects of the set are beautifully oversize including girth as well as height and this allows the carvers to practice their artistry to full effect. The work on this set is exceptional.
