An early 19th century Grand Tour Dieppe carved ivory triptych of Jeanne (Joan) of Arc, supported on an ivory and ebonised circular wooden base. The base is a circular ebinised wooden ball which is split in two, the lower half is supported on sphinx figures and decorated with fleur de lys and when removing the top section a superb circular carved ivory scene is revealed which is inscribed ‘JEANNE D’ARD REND HOMMAGE A CHARLES VII’. The top half is also decorated with ivory carving and when turned over, reveals another superb circular carved ivory scene which is inscribed ‘JEANNE D’ARC DEVANT SES JUGES’. Standing on top of the sphere is a carved ivory figure of Jeanne (Joan) D’Arc with the front of her tunic opening to reveal a carved ivory triptych inscribed ‘JEANNE D’ARC A LA COUR DE CHARLES VII’.
