An antique pair of early 19th century French ormolu and patinated bronze figural candlesticks. Very fine quality classical candlesticks with beautiful casting. The patinated bronze figures are of vestal virgins wearing empire line dresses with their breasts bare, their long hair covered with a head dress and holding an urn in their hands. On their heads they have an ormolu drip pan of leaf form above which is an ormolu candle holder, beautifully cast with fine leaf decoration the top with two parallel lines of beading and a goats head mask to each side. The figures stand upon an ormolu cap to the stem with a further ormolu foot and all upon a marble base.
