A superb French encrier or desk set with original fire or mercury gilded ormolu in excellent original condition, set on three paw feet the a circular base with moulding is decorated with the sharpest casting of stiff leaf and stem decoration. The side of the encrier is decorated with a basket which is circular with inkpots, pin pots and pen holders while the top edge is decorated with concentric circles of beading and another of stars. The top plate of the encrier is patinated bronze with inserts for sander, inkwell and pin and etc. There are also four ormolu inserts for quills. The central stem terminates in a wreath of Acanthus.
