A superb scratch built model of a farm cart by Harold Robert Waiting, with similarities to a Shropshire wagon. The  model shows an amazing attention to detail with each piece beautifully constructed, with fold down tailgate, a chain linked metal wheel chock and inside are a selection of farm tools with two hay rakes and a pitchfork.
This is one of the best examples of a model farm cart that I have seen outside a museum and would grace any collection.
Harold Robert Waiting was born in 1892 and was first contacted by Charles Wade in November 1932. Waiting had already made 3 models (Berkshire , Sussex and a South Country cart) which were on show at the Artist Craftsman’s exhibition at Central Hall Westminster (they were later sold at Sotheby’s). At the time Waiting was living in Carshalton after leaving Kingston. Wade initially wanted Waiting to produce sets of plans of models but Waiting said he would prefer to make and sell the models. Waiting eventually left his sister’s house at Carshalton and moved to Richmond in Surrey. In 1934 he made a model of an 18th century Cotswold wagon which was bought by Cheltenham museum in 1935. For the next few years until 1937 Waiting produced several wagons for Wade, in addition to other models of a gig, a coach, a knife grinder’s cart and several other small models. There is a gap in correspondence between the 2 men between 1937 and 1945 when Waiting wrote from Slough and renewed his acquaintance from Wade. He died in 1949 in Slough at the age of 57.
