Lovely Pre-Raphaelite style painting of a young beautiful lady with long hair sitting in a garden with a statue behind and a rose bush in the foreground. The painting still retains its original embroidered frame which is in a distressed state, but which we feel adds a certain charm to the painting. On the reverse of the painting is a note from the artist to a Mr & Mrs Siegman saying in recognition of the great honour and good that they have given me and dated 5th September 1914.
Despite our best efforts we have been unable to find much information for this artist beyond that he was born in 1870, possibly in Genoa, and he was described as an Italian portraitist, although the only other portrait that we can trace by him, was a self portrait, dated 1907. There may be other portraits in existence but not attributed to him, as his signature is very hard to read.
