Two 1st rate three gun deck Ships of the Line at anchor in Portsmouth harbour, one converted to steam, the other with booms out and ships boats afloat and one of the five Indian Government Troopships alongside the Semaphore Tower getting up steam preparing to sail with a Battalion and families through the Suez Canal for India, a steam Gosport ferry in front of the Troopship. The colour of the stripe around the Troopship’s hull being blue indicates the ship’s name to be the Euphrates—the other Troopships being the Serapis-green, the Jumna-red, the Crocodile-yellow and the Malabar-black.
