A very intriguing Victorian Staffordshire figure of a man standing on a shaped base with a thin gilt line decoration, in his left hand he is holding a pistol by the barrel, whilst his right hand is placed behind his back where we think he should have been holding a sword, this is now missing, he is wearing a circular wide brimmed hat over a head scarf, a short tunic with a cape over his left shoulder, shirt, neckerchief, waistcoat and breeches, with a sash around his waist.
The collector that this figure came from had attributed it to Jean Bart, but this is identical, apart from the base, to another figure we have in stock in the theatrical section, which is one of a pair, and our question is that if this is Jean Bart, then who is the other figure in our pair supposed to be. This will take further research and we welcome any comments.
