Jean Didier Début (1824-1893) bronze “Vercingetorix”(c.82 BCE-46 BCE) the Gallic warlord that resisted Julius Ceasar’s Roman advance and was documented in Cesar’s Commentarii de Bello Gallico, the base signed “DEBUT”, the lower portion of the base is also marked “Salon des Beaux-Arts Par Debut (Prix de Rome)”, the statue retains both helmet plumes and features very little wear.
