Although examples of his sculpture are now in the Louvre and other French museums, only one of Mêne’s works “The Mounted Huntsman” was acquired by the State in his lifetime; this composition entitle “Veneur Louis XV á Cheval” was exhibited in the Universal Exposition of 1878.

This example is an exceptionally fine cast unsurpassed in its attention to detail and inspiring in the ability of Mêne to capture hidden latent energy in a frozen moment of time. A supremely elegant composition that reflects the importance that the huntsman was given during the nineteeth century.
