ANTIQUE SILVER COCONUT CUP WITH SILVER GILT INTERIOR

An antique Georgian silver mounted coconut cup or goblet on a floral decorative silver base which has been covered on the base with a silver disc. A very unusual feature of this cup, is that the interior has been lined in silver gilt, which elevates it to another level. Unfortunately, the silver hallmarks and makers marks have been rubbed and I am unable to read the accurately.
Coconuts were prized in early times for their healing powers and drinking vessels were often formed from them. The coconut cup is a variety of standing cup, made and used in Europe in the 15th and 16th Century, with a revival in Georgian England.
