A late 19th century Chinese carved ivory chess set, the kings and queens as Chinese royalty, bishops as courtiers, knights as mounted horses, rooks as elephants and pawns as foot soldiers, all standing on raised platforms, one side natural ivory and the other stained cochineal red, together with a fine Chinese lacquered folding chess board decorated with goldfish.
