A superb quality mid 19th century French gaming box from the Napoleon III era by Tahan, the box is in amboyna with rosewood cross banding with brass inlaid lines and banding, the domed top has a central cartouche in brass, ebony and mother-of-pearl, lifting the lid reveals an interior with five removable compartments, four of which would have been for the players, these contain a large number of gaming chips in different shapes, sizes and colours, together with a pack of playing cards the lock plate is inscribed Tahan à Paris.
