Johannes Van Der Bent was born in Amsterdam. Thought to have been a student of Adriaene van der Velde and Phillippe Wouwerman. Although he subsequently fell heavily under the influence of Nicolaes Berchem whose style he imitated throughout his life. Travelled in Spain and Portugal where he produced several paintings. He was fairly prolific and works by him appear on the international market regularly. Works in many international collections including the museum in Amsterdam. Provenance: With Agnews, Old Bond Street 1950. Deceased estate of Sir Steven Runciman CH. RBA. RSA.
