Usha Karmakar was an Indian semi-abstract Modernist artist from Calcutta. He exhibited with Gallery Chemould in Park Street, Calcutta one of India’s oldest leading contemporary art galleries, established in 1963 and with branches in Mumbai.
The Chemould Gallery has the distinction of having exhibited and represented the works of major artists, emerging from the first waves of India’s modernist and contemporary art movements, in their first solo shows.
‘Abstract Boats’ is a striking composition by one of Calcutta’s emerging artists from the 60’s and clearly influenced by India’s early Modernists – Francis Newton Souza and George Keyt.
